How do you use dowsing machine in pokemon Black nad White?

I've tried but it just shows that screen and i don't know what it means. So, please, could anybody answer?

well if you havent registered it it go to your key items and select it ,it will show up where the cgear usually is , if theres an invisible item it will guide you to it with arrows pointing where it is when your on the item it will show a square indicating thet its underneath you, step back one step and press A where you were standing
