If a legendary gained in a game was released at that same game will it return to its spot to be caught again?

I have not done this but for example if I release Heatran in diamond will he/she return to Stark Mountain?

No. Once you've released ANY Pokémon, legendary or not, it is NEVER again obtainable in the game, unless it's a wild Pokemon that you caught in the grass.

Note: The only way you could catch Heatran back is using AR (action replay) or hacks, and it would not be the "same one."
