All messages are stored in the database so in theory yes I could go and look at some old messages (but I don't). They get deleted fairly regularly so messages from more than a couple days ago are not there anymore.
Remember, don't post anything private in the chat room, because it's not a private place! Anyone can come into the chat at any time.
