Welcome, to AlphaSwamperts and FlaafyDraconis latest Doubles team! We had wanted to make a Doubles team for ages, and we finally got around to doing it. AD had a wacky idea involving a NU Pokémon and I said “Cool idea bro, let’s do this!.” So without further ado, here is the team:

Teambuilding process

Togetic

So we started out with AD wanting to try out Togetic, Arceus knows why. Surprisingly, those measly 55/85/105 defenses isn’t too bad after Eviolite. That combined with intriguing support movepool and that noob-warning factor it can make some serious havoc. I mean, why be cautious with a rubbish Togetic?
With the base established, we needed something to shield Togetic from those Ice, Electric and Rock types….

Excadrill

From NU to Ubers, Excadrill made a perfect partner to Togetic, dealing with Electric and Rock with ease, whilst firing of E-Qs and Rock Slides with devastating result. We decided to use a Mold Breaker variant out of the Sand since it’s just so much better. I will explain why later.
Now, we still didn’t have a reliable counter to Ice, and it’s always nice to have Intimidate so…

Hitmontop

If Hitmontop is scary in UU, it’s terrifying in Doubles. Power, Speed and support, is there nothing this guy can’t do? It is an excellent Ice-slayer and is vital in weakening physical attackers.
With Hitmontop a Psychic issue emerged, so we needed a check for that…

Hydra

A one Dragon-demolition crew, we decided to go the extra mile with this one. Since Scarf-Hydra is relatively common, we decided to go for the rarer Specs variant. And just because we can (we will get to that in a bit) we gave it Modest Nature.
Now a Fighting were a threat, so here comes…

Cresselia

You’ve seen this before, defensive, blabla, support, blablabla, hits like a truck, blababl… Wait, what?
Yeah… We are those guys that just don’t do what you expect to.

Thundy

Lastly, we put Scizor in, just because it is seriously good. But during testing, we ran into trouble with two types of teams, Rain and Trick Room. And that is bad, very, very, very bad. Rain is just common wherever you go, and Trick Room is very viable in Doubles. So we decided to use Thundurus-I instead of Scizor, since it can hit Poli & CO really hard and shut down TR setters with his Priority Taunt.

Now, we will move on to the sets and individual Pokemon (that’s the exciting stuff).

So by now you’ve probably noticed how forsakenly slow this team is. Mold Breaker Excadrill, Specs Modest Hyderigon, Togetic, Cresselia, Hitmontop and Thundurus that’s not particularly fast. So how do we solve this dilemma? With a smile of course!

Togetic

Togetic @ Eviolite
Trait: Serena Grace
EVs: 252 HP/ 88 Def/ 168 SDef
Bold Nature
- Follow Me
- Helping Hand
- Tailwind
- Roost
The star of the show! Or egg rather… Togetic is an excellent support Pokemon, which brings the invaluable Tailwind. In a single turn, Excadrill, Hydreigon, Thundurus and to some extent Hitmontop, gets an immense Speed boost, allowing them to sweep like absolute pros. Follow Me is when you just need to keep Hydra alive for one (or more) turn, Helping Hand is when a EQ from Exca just don’t cut it. Roost, just makes it a pain in the behind. The Evs and Nature gives nice bulk. Now, you might be wondering how well Togetic actually fares on the battlefield against some heavy hits?

252+ Atk Life Orb Kyurem-B Fusion Bolt vs. 252 HP / 88 Def Eviolite Togetic: 265-312 (84.39 - 99.36%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Latios Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 168+ SpD Eviolite Togetic: 171-202 (54.45 - 64.33%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

O_O (<<< Your face right now) That’s right, it can take a STAB Specs Draco Meteor from a frickin Latios and just barely survive a LO Adamant Super Effective Fusion Bolt from Kyurem-B. That’s some wicked mixed walling. Few Pokemon can even hope of accomplishing such a feat, especially any from the dark depths of NU. I mean, there isn’t a lot of Pokemon form OU that can accomplish that.

Excadrill

Excadrill @ Life Orb
Trait: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk/ 252 Spe/ 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- X-Scissor
- Protect
I’m starting to understand why Excadrill is Ubers. Sand Rush is Excadrill by no mean the more dangerous of the two. With Tailwind support from Togetic, Mold Breaker Exca gets the same speed as its Sand Rush brethren, but with the ability to hit those pesky Bronzong, Cresselia, Eelektross and Rotom’s. E-Q is obvious STAB and forms the Edge-Quake combo. Rock Slide>Stone Edge since this is Doubles and X-Scissor is coverage over Dark and Psychic types such as Cresselia and Hydreigon. Protects is to lure people into attacking it.
Since our usual lead is Togetic+Excadrill, I use Exca's Protect whilst Togetic sets up Tailwind. This works incredibly well since people tend to see the amazing power of Excadrill and focus their heavy fire on Exca and just leave Togetic to set up. Jokes on them I guess.

Hitmontop

Hitmontop @ Fighting Gem
Trait: Intimidate
EVs:124 HP/ 252 Atk / 132 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Wide Guard
- Fake Out
- Sucker Punch
Pretty standard Hitmontop, works as a lead with Fake Out, allowing Togetic to set up the Wind. Then it just keeps its shenanigans going. Wide Guard when obvious E-Q is obvious. Sucker Punch is there when we need more speed than Tailwind gives. Close Combat+STAB-Figthing Gem=a whole lot of pain.

Hydreigon

Hydreigon @ Choice Specs
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spe / 4 Def
Modest Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Earth Power
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse

We wanted to have some raw power and a Dragon so we chose Hydreigon. With a Tailwind under his belt it outspeeds the whole metagame barring Scarfed Positive natured base 98's. Moveset is pretty straightforward: Draco Meteor and Dark Pulse as STAB, Earth Power to hit Heatran and Tyranitar Fire Blast for Scizor.
Specs to power him some more. You know, ITS OVER 9000!

Cresselia

Cresselia @ Expert Belt
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 136 HP / 252 SAtk / 120 Spd
Modest Nature
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Psyshock
- Icy Wind
- Helping Hand

Offensive Cress. Expert Belt to power up Super Effective hits like Hidden Power [Fire] for Scizor and Ferro. Psychock as STAB and also to punish those Fighting types that stay in on me thinking that I'm Sitrus Berry Cresselia. Icy Wind for Speed control. Sunny Day screws Rain teams over and all the pesky Steel types.

Thundurus

Thundurus (M) @ Expert Belt
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 156 HP / 252 SAtk / 100 Spd
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Grass Knot
- Hidden Power Ice
- Taunt

Our secondary lead with Hitmontop and professional annoyance. Shuts down most TR setters unless they carry Mental Herb (which is getting increasingly common) and hits rain abusers hard, especially Politoed which we have no real counter to. HP Ice and Grass Knot is coverage and the Expert Belt just allows it slightly more power without recoil. The weird Evs allows it to outspeed any Pokemon with 70 Max Speed such as Breloom and Politoed.

Replays coming soon…

So that's or Doubles featuring both NU and Ubers Pokémon, hope you enjoyed our little mayhem :D
