/Chapter 6: Plot-holes\
“Alright, listen up everybody!” Said the blue haired Rocket Executive. His name was Archer. “After time and decision, we’ve decided that new Rocket Grunt Vipey, who’s been here for a few days now, is now an executive.”
The room of selected grunts clapped and cheered. Vanessa cheered louder than everyone else. Chris was visibly shocked by the news, although he was clapping.
“Rocket Executive Vipey will be leading you on the Cianwood trip for his first mission. Make sure to listen to him. As for the trip, there’s a hidden river near Ecruteak, and we have a submarine hidden there. You leave at night and you must return before morning.”
…
After the meeting, the other executives showed me to my new room. It was much bigger than all the other rooms I’ve seen. It had a king-sized bed, an expensive bathroom decorated with smoothed shards, star pieces, and lots more gorgeous gems. I even had my own mini fridge, which was a delight. After the others left, I put down my bag and settled in.
I’m truly living the life of a high-class Team Rocket member.
…
Over the course of the day, I took some time to train my team, finally getting Pear to evolve into Meganium, and leveling up most of my team near level 40. I also went over the Cianwood plan with the other executives, and it seemed like the Olivine Lighthouse would be key in knowing which way to go and which rocky areas to avoid. With the plan in mind, I went ahead and boarded the submarine early, simply to check it out. It was modeled after a Gyarados as a disguise, and it had less than desirable functions.
About 30 minutes later, the other members boarded the submarine, and we got ready to take off. I scanned the submarine, noticing Vanessa (and Chris) among the cast of Rocket Grunts, and although it was tempting, I stopped myself from waving so I wouldn’t show favoritism.
Within no time, the submarine started moving. Looking out the windows, I saw many Pokemon swim out the way in fear of what they thought was a big, scary Gyarados. I was a bit nervous on my first job as executive, and I didn’t really know what to do, so I just went around the submarine, checking on everyone, making sure nobody was doing anything suspicious, things of the sort. I had sat down at the front of the submarine, where the driver was handling the sub, and after a while, I noticed something extraordinary.
It was just as dark as when we left.
We had been at this for a while, and the fact that only the submarine’s dim lights were the only thing illuminating the water was very concerning.
“Hey, driver!” The driver and the co-pilot turned around. “Shouldn’t there be more light? Have we passed the light house yet?”
The drivers turned back around, staring at the map and the surrounding area. I rushed towards the submarine’s binoculars to see things above the water.
“QUICK! STEER LEFT! STEER LEFT! WE’RE HEADED STRAIGHT FOR THE LIGHTHOUSE!”
The pilots steered as hard as they could, and while we managed to avoid the lighthouse, we couldn’t stop, and the sub crashed into the docks. The engine started smoking, and I leaped into action, guiding everyone out of the submarine. We filed onto the docks, crouching behind the largest ships to avoid detection. It was when I was counting to see if everyone got off when I heard someone off in the distance, crying. I noticed them, a girl, at the end of the docks near the lighthouse. I signaled for my crew to stay put, and I advanced towards the girl.
“...hey. Why are you crying?”
She turned towards me, her face bearing teary yet tired eyes. She reached for the glass bottle that was next to her and took a sip.
“Hey, aren’t you Jasmine? Why aren’t you up in the lighthouse, illuminating the-”
“Amphy’s DEAD!” Jasmine sobbed and drank more of her unidentified liquid.
“What? How?!”
“He got sick,” Jasmine sobbed. I was hoping someone, some big strong protagonist in shining armor would come around and travel to Cianwood to get some special medicine for Amphy...”
I stared at Jasmine in shock. Anger filled my eyes.
“Ha. Hah Hah. The Pokemon Center. Is RIGHT! THERE! The Pokemon Center heals E v E r Y t H I N g!!! OOOOOOOR you could get Some OTHER healing items! Need to recover HP? Go to the nearest Poke Mart and buy yourself a Super Potion! Need some status healing berries? Walk to the nearest route and search near the T a L l Grass. There are many things you could have done to prevent this. MANY!! But InSTEAD, you chose to sit around here and wait for some “PrOtAgOnIsT” to bring your Ampharos some medicine. And now, my crew is stranded on the docks in plain sight, our submarine is wrecked, and I’m probably gonna fail this mission and lose my executive rank!”
I had raised my voice, but I didn’t care. Everything was going so well until now, and I didn’t want things to be turned upside down. I felt someone rest their hand on my shoulder. It was Vanessa. Her doing that comforted me. We sorta just stood there a while until Jasmine finally turned around and picked herself up.
“*sniff* Sorry about your submarine and sorry for not trying harder for Amphy. *sniff* I can lend you a boat if you need it.”
“Thanks, I would appreciate that very much.”
A short while later, Jasmine had prepared a boat for us. It was a sailboat, which we could make do. It was silent, although not as stealthy and hidden as we would’ve liked.
“Alrighty crew. As you saw, our submarine is destroyed, so we’ll have to find a work around to this. Obviously, not all of you will be on this boat, so some of you will stay behind and prepare small rowboats for us to transport the goods and our crew when we come back. After you’re done preparing the boats, stay hidden until we come back.” “Chris, Vanessa, and drivers, I want you to accompany me on the sail to Cianwood.”
Everyone split into groups and my group prepared to set sail. After some quick thinking, I took out my Super Rod reeled in a Staryu. Luckily, it had Illuminate, the ability I needed. I attached the Staryu to the Super rod and attached the Super Rod to the front of the ship.
“Alright,” I said to the pilots, “You watch Staryu. It’ll illuminate the water just bright enough to see any jagged rocks. One of you will watch the water, the other yells the direction to go.” “Vanessa, you’ll work on the sail with Covid. Listen to what the pilots say and tell Covid the direction to blow wind.” “And you,” I said to Chris, “You’ll handle the wheel.” “As for me, I’ll be on deck, watching the distant surroundings.”

We quickly got to work, sailing the ship through the darkened night. At first, it was smooth sailing, but then, we arrived at the rocky section of the route. The boat sailed at a slower pace, allowing us to be more careful, although some random gusts of wind would try to steer us in the wrong direction. But with our teamwork, we managed to advance through most of the route without trouble. Then I heard it.
The loud, gushing sound of crashing, raging water.
We were near the Whirl Islands.
There was a huge whirlpool off to the left side of the ship. “Quick! Blow harder!” I heard Vanessa frantically scream. But I knew it was no use. No amount of wind would be able to save us. I already could feel the whirlpool starting to pull us in. I didn’t have to account for the whirlpools, since we were going to use an underwater current to traverse us through the route, but now that we were on top of the water, I had no idea what to do. We were speeding up. I knew we had to use the momentum of the whirlpool to traverse the treacherous waters, but without anything to keep us against the force of the whirlpool, we were going to get sucked in.
“Well, Viper,” a sharp voice interrupted. “What are we going to do now?” Chris glared at me. But not a mean glare. A glare that held up fear. A glare that was putting it’s hope on me.
“I... I don’t know. But I’ll figure something out...”
“Then hurry up and do it!” Yelled Chris. “We don’t have much time!”
TIME!
That’s it!
I’ll use Old Timer’s powers to stop the flow of time on the whirlpool!
I wanted to wait until we had more momentum, though. It would be risky, but if it worked, we would arrive at Cianwood quicker.
“Alright Vanessa! Lots of wind! Now!”
“WHAT are you CRAZY?!” Vanessa shrieked.
“Just trust me,” I said.
It took a while before I heard anything, but I heard Vanessa sigh and give the command. We instantly started speeding up, and soon, we were in the whirlpool. We started going around and around and around.
“VIPER IF WE DIE I’M GONNA KI-”
“NOW! STEER RIGHT!”
Chris stopped yelling and made a sharp right. Covid blew air to turn the sail right.
“ROAR OF TIME!” I called. Instantly, Old Timer came out the Timer Ball and blasted the whirlpool with a powerful beam of dragon energy. The water froze in time, and we were sent flying into the air at high speeds. Slowly descending, we rushed through the sky until eventually gracing the water once more and arriving on the shore of Cianwood City.
“Viper,” started Chris, still trying to catch his breath after the traumatic experience, “if you EVER pull off something like that again-”
“Come on, hurry. We have some special medicine and herbs to grab,” I said.

The rest of the mission went smoothly. The sail back to Olivine was mostly smooth. We loaded our cargo on the rowboats, returned the sailboat, and sailed back to the hidden spot near Ecruteak.
When we returned to base, the other members of the crew went on ahead to fill out a report on how I did on my first mission. Soon, the other executives summoned me to the main office.
“I have to say, based on what I’ve heard, you have AMAZING leadership skills,” said Ariana, the red-haired woman.
“And the ability to think on a whim in such a critical situation,” started Petrel, the purple-haired man, “is such a great skill to have for Team Rocket.”
“I have no doubt in saying that making you an addition to our executive board was a decision we have no regrets about,” said Archer.
After those encouraging words, it truly feels like I was always meant to be here.

Over the course of the next week, I participated in more Team Rocket missions, and even led the Goldenrod Game Corner retrieval. It was a lot easier than I thought, but that might be because I can easily disguise and myself quicker than the others can. The person running the Game Corner was confused at first, but once I showed him I was an executive, he handed the Pokemon to me with no trouble.
Eventually came the day of the Radio Tower takeover. Almost all Team Rocket members took part. I was stationed at the top of the tower to stop anyone that dare interrupt our plan. I had the highest level Pokemon, so it made sense for me to stand as the final boss.
My experience and knowledge of evil teams really comes in handy now that I’m standing here. Usually, there’s that dreaded Protagonist that sets out to destroy the evil team, usually 10 years in age. But I was not going to let some 10-year-old stop me. For the first time in Pokemon history, the evil team will succeed in their goals, and the dreaded Protagonist will run in defeat.
So I waited. I heard Rocket Grunts running around on the lower floors.
I waited. I heard the broadcast going on.
Waiting. My eyelids start to droop, and I start to doze off.
…
I wake up and the sky is noticeably darker. How long was I asleep? I look out the window to see Grunts running and Police sirens going off. I hear the elevator coming up to the top floor. I turn around in my chair, facing the windows, preparing to make my grand entrance. The elevator door opens.
“Alright, Team Rocket! Surrender now!” Wait, that voice is so familiar. I turn around in my chair so see-
“LYRA?!”
“VIPEY?!”
There is visible shock on Lyra’s face. All the confidence she once had suddenly disappeared. The Remoraid she had in her hand dropped to the floor.
“Lyra, what in the world are you doing here?!”
“What are YOU doing here, Vipey?! You had us all worried! We were waiting for you, our noble protagonist, to appear on the news, showing signs of Team Rocket getting taken down. But hours passed and nothing happened. I tried calling you on the Pokegear, but you wouldn’t pick up. The gym leaders and various Police force tried cutting through the National Park to get to Goldenrod, but a Sudowoodo was blocking the way. Several accidents happened at the Olivine ports due to the lack of light at night, so arrival by water wasn’t an option! So I had to do something. I had to fill in the Protagonist’s shoes. I had to step in where you wouldn’t!”
It finally dawned on me. I’M supposed to be the protagonist! I was supposed to be the one, going around the region and stopping everyone’s problems. People couldn’t get here because I didn’t clear the Sudowoodo. But then again, several ships crashed in the Olivine port because I didn’t go there to save Amphy. People were counting on ME to take down Team Rocket, but I failed them. But this is what I wanted, right? I didn’t want to be the one solving everyone’s problems, right? So why do I feel guilty?
“And where were you, huh? You’re already here, disguised as Team Rocket. Why didn’t you go and take them down?!”
“Look, Lyra, I can explain,” I said, slowly backing up. The sunlight flowed into the window and shined on my Executive badge. Lyra gasped, with her eyes filling up with fear and anger. I felt a little chill.
“...Vipey! You’re one of them. YOU’RE TEAM ROCKET!” Lyra exclaimed.
“Look, I can explai-”
“There’s nothing to explain! The reason you haven’t been beating the gyms, taking down Team Rocket. It’s because you ARE Team Rocket. I KNEW you were acting suspicious, but I’d never thought you’d go THIS far! That money you gave me. You STOLE it, didn’t you! And to think, I’ve been using stolen money...”
“I tried to tell you. HONEST, But I couldn’t bring myself to. I thought that on some low chance, you would support my decision to change-”
“I would support Vipey. The Vipey I know and love. I don’t support you! You AREN’T the Vipey I know!”
Lyra picked up the Remoraid and pointed it at me.
“Lyra. I loved you, I thought we were something...”
“I thought we were something too. But apparently, it’s just not meant to be...”
“LANCE! HE’S IN HERE!”
Oh crud
Lance burst into the room with his Dragonite, Dragonite’s mouth steaming. Lance did not wear any form of mercy or compassion on his face.
“Vipey. We’ve been looking into you for the longest time, and you’ve displeased many of us officials. From betraying me to using HMs without the proper badger... you’ve defied many laws of our world, and for that, you must be punished!”
My spirits dropped. I felt a little chill.
“Now, any last words before we end you?”
I picked up my chair and threw it at the window, breaking it. Below, I could see many of my teammates held captive by the Police. There was one special person my eyes sought out in the crowd of Team Rocket members.
“I LOVE YOU VANESSA!”
...And without turning around, I jumped. I could feel my back burning up, but I didn’t care. As I plunged towards the ground, gaining momentum and bracing for impact, I thought about everything I’ve been through.
This is the end for me, huh.
And as I reached the ground, I felt my world engulfed in darkness...

What a strange clash.
Why are bugs better than dark and psychic?
Why can the mind go through fear, poison, fire and ice?
Why are Ice, Legends and Dragons Vs. Useful dragon?
Why are dragons against everyone?
Why is profanity good for poisoning?
Why is darkness good and wind good?
Why do insects resist attacks? (that's what you want)
Why are water, clay and iron good for stone?
If you have any other ideas, feel free to comment below. If you know/know the answer to the above question, please let me know. Thanks!
