What is the substitute supposed to look like?

Question

ok, so I was wondering what the doll that shows up when you use substitute is meant to look like? does it resembles anything like a specific dinosaur or bear or has it no origin?
note: I don't want you to tell me that the substitute in gen 1 looked like a ryhorn, I want to know what this guy is based off:

According to the Trivia section of Bulbapedia,it's supposed to look like an inanimate decoy which simply stands in for the Pokémon. So it probably has no origin.However,in the anime,Substitutes are seen to be clones of the user and in Manga,it is the same but more transparent.
