If you miss a shiny patch during shiny chaining, do the chances reset?

If you see a shiny patch and reset without breaking your chain.

No the chain doesn't reset as long as you don't encounter a different Pokemon or step out of the grass. U use the radar again and you can find another shiny patch, not guaranteed but the chance will not reset, i.e. It will still b 1/40.
