Why is VGC only Doubles?

I heard VGC 2014 is Doubles. Curse GF!

Just want to mention, it's not Game Freak making those decisions, it's Nintendo and the Pokemon Company International.

The format for VGC Tournaments is doubles because it is more fast paced, and very difficult to stall.
You probably know that single battles can be long and drawn out, and there isn't time for that in a large-scale tournament like the ones they hold, as it takes place in a single day.

Not to mention, Pokémon was also more balanced towards doubles.
