Mega Stones in Contests?

Question

I'm planning on using Mega Pokémon is ORAS Contests, but I am wondering if it is worth it if they could just hold a Yellow Scarf, Green Scarf, etc.
Are there any added benefits of Mega Evolving in a contest? If so, what are they? Are Scarves the superior option?

P.S. Where can I get the contest scarves?

Mega Evolution will max out the hearts gauge.

to get the scarfs get a Poke that almost has nearly maxed out a contest stat. I'd max it out to be sure. then go to Slateport City's Pokemon Fan Club, talk to the old man, and he will give you the scarf corresponding to the contest stat you maxed out.

The mega stones do not do anything, except change appearance, so you should hold a scarf.

Source? Even experience would suffice. Also, I remember reading that Mega Evolving completely wows the audience.
