Will my FC change if I change consoles?

I want to trade in my old, slightly dysfunctional 3DS for a 3DS XL. MMy only problem is, will the FC on my 3DS XL be the same as that on my 3DS? Here are the conditions:

• I will be replacing the SD card in the XL with my old one from the 3DS
• the SD card holds 4G

Is my 3DS' Friend Code kept in that SD card, or is it part of the console itself? Will I have to re-register all of my friends again?

the friend code will change regardless of putting old SD card.

Unfortunately, it will.

A Friend Code is a 12-digit number exclusive to each 3DS system.

The FC is within the 3DS itself, so yes it will change.
