They are different because the anime and games are completely unrelated. The anime May (hehe ani-May) lives in one "universe" and the ORAS May lives in another "universe". Not to mention that the anime May was made and designed long before the ORAS May.
Besides, if you look at the anime May and compare her to the Ruby/Sapphire May, you see that not a lot is different.
