question: is flareon worth having on Pokemon yellow my team? I want a good fire type.

Probably not, since all fire attacks were special back then, and Flareon isn't a good special attacker.

In my opinion, no. It has a lot of physical attack, yet has only 2 moves that it can use that physical attack on.

Good Fire type for Yellow? Don't waste your time with the false prophet. Ninetales is actually good in Gen-1, and Arcanine is an option if you can trade for one. Alternatively, and this is coming from a die-hard Venusaur fan so this is completely unbiased, JUST USE CHARIZARD.
I recommend Flamethrower, Fly, Slash and Fire Spin.

Rapidash is probably the best option. As long as you give it Agility and Fire Spin, you're set. Fire Spin doesn't let enemies attack, and if you move first all the time, they're not going to be doing anything until you miss.

Edit- Flareon's base Special is higher than Charizard's by one point, Ninetales's by 10, and Arcanine is more physical and Magmar is plain bad, making Flareon your best option. It also can use the same set as mentioned above, so you should use it.
