Does counter damage go over sash?

Question

So let's say you have a 200 Hp Pokemon with focus sash, and a foe does a move that shold do 500 damage, which would ohko you. But you have counter. Because you hung on with sash, will counter do 1000 damage because they would have done 500, or 398 because with sash, all they did was 199 because you had a sash.

It would do 398. it doubles the damage you received, not how much damage your opponent would inflict.
