So unless I'm mistaken, Counter reflects the base power of each physical move back at the attacker at 2x the power. Now if Counter is a Fighting type move, and the Dark type opponent attacks with a physical move, then it should reflect back at 4x normal power due to Dark types being weak to Fighting types, right? Well, let's change that. Let's say a Psychic Pokemon used a Bug, Ghost, or Dark type physical move. Would the damage reflected include the fact that Psychic is weak to those types? So in effect being about 6x-8x damage reflection? Or could any change be made at all to the damage reflection as far as the weakness and resistance go?

Counter does not reflect the base power, it reflects the total damage done. So if you're WObbuffet takes 666 damage from a physical attack and it uses counter, its attacker will take 1332 damage and probably die. According to this, counter isn't affected by type effectiveness

Although Counter deals Fighting-type damage, it is not affected by type effectiveness (so it can affect Ghost-type Pokémon)

However it was changed in gen two

Furthermore, Ghost-type Pokémon are now immune to Counter

This thread also explains how counter works and while that thread is for gen four which is god knows how long ago, nothing concerning the main mechanics surrounding counter has changed
