When I try to enter the portal in the post game it won't let me?

Question

I have completed the game become champion and finished the ultra beast quest now I want to het cosmog for my team. I have Sun and I am currently at the alter of the Sunne at night and when I try to enter the portal it says " There is a strange distortion in the air ... but you don't seem able to traverse it now." Can I have help on how to get the portal to work

In Pokemon Sun, you have to go to the portal at night with Solgaleo in your party. In Moon, it's at day with Lunala in your party. Source: Experience
