Will Cute Charm work while behind a Substitute?

Okay, so I am shiny hunting Rockruff through the S.O.S. method and I want a boy for a midnight form Lycanroc. Rockruff has a move that lowers your accuracy. I am using a female Cinccino with the ability Cute Charm, but I am also using the move Substitute so Cinccino's accuracy is not lowered. Will the ability Cute Charm still work while I am behind a Substitute?

When a Pokémon with this Ability is hit by a move that makes contact, there is a 30% chance that the attacking Pokémon will become infatuated if it is of the opposite gender to the Pokémon with this Ability. This Ability will not activate if the Pokémon with this Ability is genderless.

No. Cute Charm activates when they make contact, and how can it make contact if it is hitting a fake?
