Yes, your sources are right, there are no held Items, but there are these candies that raise your stats (Rare Candies are part of these Candies). They are stored in the Candy Jar, in key Items. Mega Stones are also in Key Items. Also, Potions and other medicine items are in the game. So, this is all we know so far, Medicine items are there, Key items are there, and candies are in the game.
