What are points in the dream world?

it says to get certain pokemon you need points

what does this mean?

Dream Points are earned by doing certain actions in the Dream World. Similar to earning Watts in the Pokéwalker, gaining Dream Points allows players to unlock more areas in the Dream Island.  Hope this helps...
