What are the chances a sticky barb will stick?

Also, what are the conditions to make it stick. I just want to know if its worth it, or if ill take too much damage!

It takes 1/8 of your health every turn, 1/8 of your opponents health every time he makes contact with you, and it will only stick ( 100% chance though ) If your opponent doesn't have an item, this goes good in a combo with knock off. ( Knock Off your opponents item then the barb will auto stick if they make contact )

That would be good aswell, although I wouldn't like the chance of getting tricked into a choice item.
