PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

I've heard a lot of people talk about how certain Pokemon (e.g. Unown) are only good to use if they have "Psychic-type HP", and I haven't been able to find out what that means. Can anyone help out?

HP stands for Hidden Power, which is a move that has a different type depending on specific characteristics of a Pokemon. Therefore, people say that Unown needs to have Psychic Hidden Power to be even slightly good, because it's the only move it would get STAB on.

Hope I helped!

Thank you! You've helped a ton!
You're welcome! Happy to help.
Note that Unown is still terrible, even if it has STAB Hidden Power.
That's fair. But it's slightly better with Psychic HP, even if it still is awful.
90 BP with STAB, 180 SE, maxing out at 360.

Guess it’s not that terrible... ok it is.
Yeah, Unown is still pretty much garbage. Mostly a gimmick Pokemon.
So, point is, get a Psychic type with Psychic and forget about Unown, unless you are dying to use one.
