Exactly how many Pokemon can mega-evolve?

As of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, 46 Pokemon can Mega Evolve. Charizard and Mewtwo have two Mega Evolutions each, so the total number of Mega Evolutions is 48.

Introduced in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire: 20

Legends: Z-A is going to release a few more Mega Evolutions, such as Mega Dragonite. These will be added to the answer when we get a complete list.
