PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

I'm asking this question because I was stupid when catching the legendary Pokemon Solgaleo in Sun with only a master ball and four dusk balls during the day, so I had to defeat it, go back again to the Pokemon center on route 8 and get some quick balls and timer balls, then go back again. But would I have been ok if I just used my dusk balls instead of wasting money of poke balls I would have never have needed?

If used at night or in a cave (excluding Mirage Caves), the Dusk Ball has a 3.5× catch rate modifier; otherwise, it has a 1× modifier.

So 1x modifier. You can catch it with anything, but with Dusk Ball in daytime has the same as a Pokeball, so buying Quick Balls and Ultra Ball would be better.
Calculation:

You have a 16.191% chance of capturing it per ball. Thus, you have at least a 50% chance of catching it within 4 balls and at least a 95% chance of catching it within 17 balls.

So are you saying that I could've gotten the Solgaleo with a dusk ball during the day? If so, pls include that in your answer
You have to tell its HP and status condition to calculate catch rate, if it is what you mean.
Paralyzed, about 1/8 of it's HP

Hello!

To answer your question, it might've been worth a shot to throw your dusk balls at the Solgaleo.

In Pokémon Sun, Dusk Balls have a 1x catch modifier during the day. This is equivalent to a traditional PokeBall.

At your odds (with Solgaleo being at 12.5% of its HP and being paralyzed), you would've had a 34.568% chance of catching it. By using two of your available balls, you would've had a little over a 50% catch rate, as well. This is quite high, so it was probably worth trying out those Dusk Balls. .

I Hope I Helped!
