Why can't I get past Meteor Falls and into Mt. Chimney? (Sapphire)?

Question

For some reason when I enter Meteor Falls and encounter the two grunts and the professor, there is no scene that occurs. By that I mean the two grunts just stand there and don't say anything, I can't interact with them and they don't flee with the meteorite. I can interact with the professor but he says the same thing every time (something about Mr. Chimney).

I am able to leave Meteor Falls and then go back to where the cable car should be but the grunts are still blocking the entrance to it.

Did I miss a critical step which would keep the story progressing ? If so, I can't seem to figure out what that is. Thanks for the help. Here is a link to the screengrab when I'm in Meteor falls

Haven't beat Flannery yet, I believe that would be next if I could get to the cable car and go to lavaridge

Thanks for the flag. We don't allow questions about emulation/ROMs, but I don't want to extend that into issues that only *might* be an emulator problem.
If the solution is truly that this is an emulation bug (which is by no means guaranteed), then we can make a note of that and leave it there.

just go to the start of meteor falls then go left once you reached an end go down then you should find an exit
