Regular Deoxys

No, absolutely not. It is completely outclassed offensively by Deoxys-Attack.

Deoxys-Attack is a very powerful mixed wallbreaker. It can actually be slightly viable, however it is definitely not top tier. Despite its insane offensive stats, Deoxys-Attack's absolute garbage defenses and lack of notable resistances make switching in a nightmare. It is easily revenge-killed by Shadow Sneak Marshadow, Choice Scarf Xerneas, Extreme Speed Mega Rayquaza, and the loads of speed boosters present like Dragon Dance Mega Rayquaza, Swords Dance Ultra Necrozma, Dragon Dance Zygarde, Rock Polish Primal Groudon, and Geomancy Xerneas, to name a few. It faces competition from Ultra Necrozma, Mewtwo, and Mega Mewtwo Y for their ability to not be OHKOed by every single attack in ubers.

I guess the extra defenses are pretty nice. However, its bulk is actually not that good. It is also extremely passive and has a terrible defensive typing. Many much better entry hazard setters exist, like Ferrothorn and Skarmory who have great defensive typings and who can actually do damage by using Leech Seed, Power Whip, Gyro Ball, or racking up entry hazard damage with Whirlwind. Never use this junk, ever.

Deoxys-Speed is the fastest Pokemon in Gen 7 Anything Goes and has access to great utility like Spikes, Stealth Rock, Magic Coat, and Taunt, with Skill Swap being useful too for Magic Bouncers. Its bulk is pretty decent and lets it survive a hit.

Deoxys-Speed @ Focus Sash
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature

  • Spikes
  • Stealth Rock
  • Skill Swap
  • Taunt

Oh, and if you're looking for an offensive Psychic type, Swords Dance Ultra Necrozma is your best option. It's the 2nd best Pokemon in Gen 7 AG.

It didn't learned Dragon Dance in Gen 7. It got it in Gen 8 only—so I'm replacing that with Swords Dance.
