in Gen III and all previous generations Hidden power was a physical move but did the type change it like hp(dark) was still special?

That's what I was trying to prove. Moves like hidden power [fighting] would be physical despite Hidden power later being made into a special move in Sinnoh. Dark was special prior to gen IV.
