No, not really. It's based on a snake (serpent). Lapras is actually based on the Loch Ness Monster.

Lapras looks nothing like the Loch Ness Monster But There ar many different ways you we can look at that...
According to Bulbapedia, lapras was originally gonna be called ness. It's pretty safe to say it was based on it; they do bear a lot of resemblance.
lapras actually looks like a plesiosaur.
Thats what most scientists think the loch ness monster is.
Red, I dunno what image of the Loch Ness Monster you have seen, but most images have it looking like a dinosaur with 4 legs, a body and long neck. Although it obviously doesn't actually exist it could look like anything.
-_- they have a lot of evidence to suggest it DOES exist.I believe in it anyway.
The Loch Ness Monster is NOT real.
You have no proof.
I believe in the possibility of Nessy but until they come up with proof(as in capture nessy or take a HD photo up close) I will not choose a side.
Guys guys guys, calm down... There is evidence that suggests Nessie exists... And isn't alone... There have been sightings in Arkansas and Mississippi up the White river, as well as the Okanagan Lake and Lake Chake Champlain, Lake Simcoe near Toronto and Lake Manitoba to name a few, of creatures like Nessie that are linked to the Elasmosaur, a type of Plesiosaur that lived over 70 million years ago. It's possible they may be alive and have just adapted(became smaller) like the crocodile species which are related to dinosaurs.
Lollolololololo Professor.
Loch Ness Monster is real. We're just so stupid we can't prove it. Also it is impossible to prove that something does not exist.
Lapras means lock ness in its prototype name
Shouldn't this be taken to the chat room?
