PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

Maybe it's because I've captured a lot of Pokemon, but I seem to be getting Critical Captures FAR much more easily than in other games. So I was wondering, have the mechanics changed so that it's easier to get a Critical Capture? Do Poke Balls with higher catch chances (for example, Quick Ball on the first turn) give you a higher chance of getting a Critical Capture?

And as a dumb bonus question, is it possible to catch a Pokemon with full HP without a Critical Capture after you've completed the Pokedex? I haven't been able to for over 300 Pokemon since I always get a Critical Capture before I can catch the Pokemon normally.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have a quirk with the animations of critical captures, namely that a successful capture on a Pokémon that is registered in the player's Pokédex will always appear to be a critical capture, even if it is not, and a failed critical capture animates as a normal capture, but with the Pokémon breaking out after no shakes.

So if you are catching more than one of the same Pokemon, the capture will always appear to be a critical capture, even if it is not.

I hope this answers your question!
