Gen 9 National Dex Specially Bulky Attacker
Raging Bolt @ Assault Vest
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 124 HP / 252 SpA / 132 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 20 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Thunderclap
- Draco Meteor
The main star of this set is Volt Switch, a seeminly undervalued move in Bolt's kit. When coupled with an Electric overload teammate like Tapu Koko or a Ground-type destroyer like Weavile, Volt Switch becomes nigh unblockable and becomes a safe move for Bolt to click without needing to make unnecessary predicts. It also helps Bolt's to reposition after it grabs a KO with Volt Switch. Assault Vest helps Bolt live seemingly impossible hits like Scarf Lele's Moonblast, Charizard Y's Scorching Sands, and Iron Crown's hits. Due to the overall abundance of physical attackers compared to special attackers, 124 HP is used instead of 124 SpDef to still maintain some bulk on the physical side. 132 Speed outspeeds defensive Landorus-T, allowing Bolt to smack it with a Draco Meteor. Tera Flying is used over Tera Fairy due to the sheer power of Draco Meteor and it's ability to pick up surprise KOs against Pokemon like Great Tusk, allowing something like Tapu Koko to Thunderbolt with greater ease.
Assault Vest Raging Bolt fits on teams that struggle with special attackers, the most prominent of which being Charizard Y and Tapu Lele. Thus, teammates like Rillaboom and Tapu Koko are great partners for Raging Bolt, as Rillaboom hates Zard and both enjoy their terrains being set up uncontested. Charizard Y is also a great partner with Raging Bolt not only due to the obvious Sun-Protosynthesis synergy, but also Charizard Y having to run every time ScarfLele switches in. As mentioned previously, Pokemon that threaten Ground types are appreciated, notably Ogerpon (any form) and Weavile. Both are also physical attackers, helping Raging Bolt against more traditional special walls like Blissey and Clodsire.
