PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

On early April 2024, Nintendo will discontinue online services for 3DS and Wii U games. This will impact all 3DS and Wii U software including all Pokemon games released for these consoles, but Pokemon Bank and Poke Transporter will remain functional as long as the user has already downloaded these before the 3DS eShop closed down on March 2023.

Speaking of Gen 6/7 3DS Pokemon games (XY, ORAS, SM, USUM), which online features will not be available after the discontinuation of 3DS online services? Because I am worried that I will not be able to trade Pokemon and conduct online battles after April 2024.

The ending of online functionality means that connecting with people over the internet will cease to work. This includes online battles and trades (including the GTS and Wonder Trades). If the older games are any indication, local trades and battles will continue to work. (GameRant)

In addition, when Pokemon Bank and Pokemon Transporter shut down, we'll lose access to the few Pokemon not currently on the Switch, as well as a few Abilities and moveset changes. For a full list, watch this video.
