Is it safe to hard reset vs soft resetting while performing the void glitch?

I potentially need to shiny hunt shaymin soon so I need to get to shaymin's location. I used this video guide to get to darkrai and I intend to use it for shaymin as well.

However, during the process of getting to shaymin (around 9 minutes in), I will need to soft reset, which I cannot do as my 3DS' select button is broken. Would closing out of the game/restarting my 3DS work fine, or do I have to steal my brother's 3DS to do the soft resets?

Yes, it's safe to turn off the console or close the game via 3DS home menu over soft-resetting. They have the same effect as one another. Soft-resetting powers off just the game and restarts it, while hard-resetting does that plus the console. The game doesn't tell the two apart-- just that the game was turned off.
