When are starter traits determined in PLZA?

I finally had a moment to start my ZA adventure and was kinda crushed to see auto save locked in….so, when Taunie offered my starter and it wasn’t the gender I wanted, I just home buttoned my game. When are traits (gender, nature etc) determined for these starters? I’m willing to reset my game to get my starter, just want to make sure I’m doing it at the right time.

So! Trial and error answered my question. I was finally able to grab my starter! Much like S/V, your starter’s traits are determined right before you choose it. I was able to reset my game (with home button) from the save point immediately following Taunie offering me the choice. After about a dozen resets, success!
