Iron ball confusion?

It says flying types and pokemon with levitate are vulnerable to ground type moves but when I tried it, it says they are unaffected. I don't get it

Did you give it to your pokemon and then try to use a ground move on them. If so, that is the problem. It makes tha flying type vulnerable if IT is holding it, not the opponet.

For example, if you give a glisgar an iron ball, it can not hit a flying typpe pokemon with earthquake. It means they can hit him with a ground move.
