EXAMPLE female charizard holds rare candy breed with male dragonite baby charmander holds a rare candy
Is it true? If so, what chance is there that the baby holds the item?

Your friend has unfortunately lied to you. If this were true, it would be stunning and all would do it. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way and you are forced to find duplicates from other people.
That is such a LIE!! Your friend is pulling your leg.
