Why can't you catch a pokémon there is fainted?

I'm just curious. I know they can do it in the series, but I know the series are diffrent from the games, so I just want to know if there is a reason.

It makes it more challenging, how fun would it be to catch a Pokemon if you used Hydro Pump a few times on it and then threw a pokeball at it's unconscious body? It would be to easy, and not nearly as fun/suspenseful.

Additionally to this, they also implemented it this way so if you had one slow Pokemon on 1HP in your party with no medicine supplies, you could catch another Pokemon. If you could catch it unconscious, that wouldn't help, would it?
