Meta-PokéBase Q&A

Since the Tiers in the DB are hidden at the moment, i thought about a way to make the Tiers a bit more accurate.

There should be polls for every single Pokemon in the world. Any user of the DB with more than 150 points (Which means a minimum of Poke-Intelligence) could participate. Here is an example of the poll:

What should Carracosta's Tier be?

  • Uber = 2%
  • Borderline = 60%
  • OverUsed = 7%
  • UnderUsed = 2%
  • RarelyUsed = 1%
  • NeverUsed = 13%
  • Poorly Used (I think nobody knows what that stands for for...) = 15%

The tier with the most percentage of votes will win. That Tier would be Carracosta's Official Tier. In this case, Borderline wins! The poll should stay open a maximum 3 weeks so the majority of the User here could vote.

I would also like to make a protest against the people who organise the Official Tiers to add PU as one, since it is starting to gain Popularity. Here is the caracteristic of a Pokemon in the PU tier:

  • The Pokemon must have less than 3.41% rate of usage in the NU tier.

The following Pokemon are in the PU tier:

I'll leave this to more experienced members to answer (trachy, DT, josh etc) since they had more input into the tiers.
Ok, no problem!

That would be too opinionated, to be honest.

Let's face it, there is a higher majority of users above that point range that really aren't super smart about the competitive meta-game. In this case, it really wouldn't work well.

But i'll just be blunt and honest here. I don't think it would work out without having some really screwed up tiers. I'll leave trachy, DT, PB, SF, Hex, and everyone else who was super involved in editing and creating the tiers ( mainly editing ) to chime in their opinions, but that kind of system isn't very likely to work out well. Meaning it would be a lot of trouble for Pokemaster that could easily go to waste. Now one last thing I'd like to mention.

To give each pokemon a fair shake, let's cut your number of three weeks into a third of that for 1 week per pokemon evaluated. Now instead of going on all 649, let's just guess that... about a half of them are completely unevolved and don't need to be tiered.

That leaves 325 pokemon to be voted on. Now if we give each pokemon a week..
That's 325 weeks of polls before the tiers are complete. There are 52 weeks in a year.

So yeah, that would be 7 years or so. Even cutting it down to like 3 days would still be like 3 years ( i think, i'm pretty tired.. ).

We can do more than one Pokemon in a week (about 50 at a time)
I thought my idea was good D:
That pretty much brings me back to the first part.
And of course you do, it's your idea, isn't it? :P
Yeah, i think we'll just forget about it xD
Yeh people that know tiers well and are good at competative batteling should be the active people over 3500-4000
LIES. I have 4800 and suck at battling.
You dont suck ive batteled you ;) but mosty people around that amount know their tiers like i do with ou and ubers.

I agree with J98 in that there are plenty of users who don't know much about the competitive metagame.

Also, this will be even less accurate a means of organizing the tiers than what smogon and PO do (basing it off of usage). Opinion is something I am working on completely eliminating with the new tiers I am working on. It is all mathmatical and crap like that. Very boring to do. Incredibly boring to do. I died of boredom twice and if it wasn't for my getting 200000 points by eating a lot of random dots I found on the ground, I wouldn't be here today. And that is why the tiers are not done yet, nor will be for quite some time. I don't deal with boring things well. But hey, I find smogon a decent enough fill-in meanwhile. While it isn't 100% accurate, it does a good enough job (except for their Uber tier. Never liked their Uber tier. I also think they should get really specific into things. Even though it is more work, it would allow for some currently banned things getting to work out fairly.)
