How long before the points lost from downvoting come back?

Question

Pokemaster has mentioned that the points you lose from downvoting posts eventually come back, gow long after you down vote does that happen?
I only ask because i might have to help un-spam-upvote a user.

in one of the questions/threads with the "points" tag, i dont remember exactly which one

If the post is hidden it eventually gets deleted, thus you get your points back. It doesn't happen automatically.

im pretty sure Pokemaster meant that even if a post isnt hidden you will get your points back.
