The damage calculation multiplies the move's base power by the user's level and attack stat, divides by the target's defense stat, and does a bunch of other things. Power modifiers (like the faint count for last respects) modify the base power before the game runs the damage calculation. Damage modifiers (like STAB and adaptability) modify the damage that comes out of the calculation. Does this make any sense?

Forgot to mention that I had a weird dream where CSimp complimented your hair and your eyes and made them seem like the best things ever. For example, he described your hair as "the songs of red-hot embers beautifully captured into material form, flowing like sheets of music"
