the chat is active for 2 hours between 5 and 9 PM EST, depending on the day. all forms of drama and weirdness have since ended, and there’s like 3 active users in chat, so I don’t think a gigantic deal must be made.

I looked back through the server and it seems TY wrote a warning in response to that situation. I see that the parts of the profile page that were linked have since been removed, so hopefully that person knows the behaviour is inappropriate. If it happens again we may look into a temp ban.
Hopefully the features we requested will be added. I've checked chat the past couple of nights and it was totally inactive both times, so it must be most active during American daytime. I will keep checking.

Based on conversations I've had with the other staff, I get the impression peak hours on chat are covered pretty well -- at least, much better than in the past. But obviously that doesn't mean there aren't problems at all.
I agree a point requirement for chat would be a good change in direction. My opinion is that an account age requirement in addition to this would also be good, but I think people find that less agreeable. In any case, there's a suggestion for this on meta. PM is the developer of the chat plugin and he'd agree entry requirements are a good feature to have, so maybe it will be done one day.

I hope the issue with people making fun of Eos has stopped. I'm not sure what the other two issues you mentioned are about (but maybe the other staff are). If those are important to you then please DM me/us about it.

I will try to make a habit of opening chat occasionally during American off-hours, seeing as there are less staff available at those times. But I think the only real way to give meaningful improvement is to have a feature like chatmod or entry requirements -- we can bring this up again on meta if need be.

What would you term a new structure of moderation? As usual, we'll be looking to cycle in new staff some time this year, and chat will be definitely be considered in that process. If you mean brand new staff roles to better address issues on the chat room: unfortunately that's PM's job and not likely to happen (as much as we'd be very happy to see it).
I have always been bothered by the chat room and will take any feedback on how we can keep it civil. I don't have the time or patience to babysit the place personally, though.

An extra question: Was there a particular incident that moved you to ask this question, or do you just mean the long-standing problems with chat overall?
