Hey guys, another OU team from me. I had a desire to build a team around Keldeo-R ever since Black and White 2 revealed it, but failed miserably in the first couple feeble attempts. That desire came back yesterday, and was determined to make a decent team around Keldeo once and for all. That goal has been accomplished. This team is undefeated for awhile (stupid critical hit), and Spoink can tell you all this adventures this team has been through. Physical Cradily, Special Cloyster, and whatever. This team also helped me ladder to about 1200 from 912 (that was due to me testing teams there when no one on the DB was available). Enough talk, here's the team:
Keldeo-R @ Leftovers
Trait: Justified
EVs: 184 HP / 68 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Surf
- Secret Sword
The Pokemon I wanted to build around. It looks kinda, um, weird, but it makes it up with power. Everyone uses the Standard Life Orb or Choice Specs, and the rarer Choice Scarf sets. I decided to try a set that was somewhat underrated- SubCM. Justified helps me take Dark moves for Celebi, although the Attack boost is quite useless, xD The EV's look a little weird, but they're here for a reason. When battling Devil's Advocate's famous Lord Slug, also known has Gastrodon, I failed to 2HKO it. I was running the usual 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd. So I went and recalculated the EVs necessary to 2HKO the stupid slug at +1, and 68 SAtk EVs were all I needed. The rest were thrown into HP for better overall bulk. Timid is here to be fast. Substitute it the first part of my SubCM, protecting me from status that can cripple me, especially Poison. Calm Mind boosts my Special Attack and Special Defense by a stage each, and the boosts help me wreck almost everything. Surf is my STAB, and will hit insanely hard after CM and its base 129 SAtk. Secret Sword is STAB that hits the Defense stat, making it extremely useful in taking down the pink blobs known as Chansey and Blissey. The STAB moves hit really hard after some CMs, and even hurt the Dragons hard as well.
Genesect @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Download
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)
- U-turn
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Flamethrower
Genesect is one of my team's Scarfers. It helps take weak Dark and Psychic moves for Keldeo due to its secondary Steel typing. The EVs give maximum Special Attack and Speed, and a point in Attack to power up U-turn a pinch. I prefer Hasty to Rash or Naive to stop opposing Genesect from gaining a Special Attack boost. U-turn is STAB that allows me to scout, and does decent damage off of Genesect's good Attack stat. Thunderbolt hits Gyarados and Starmie, and is just a nice move to have. Ice Beam completes the infamous BoltBeam combo with Thunderbolt, hits Ground type Pokemon and targets the many x4 Ice weaknesses in OU. Flamethrower screws opposing Genesect and the many Steel types in OU, like Forretress, Ferrothorn, and Skarmory. It also prevents Magnezone from resisting my BoltBeam.
Salamence (F) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Outrage
- Dragon Claw
- Fire Blast
- Earthquake
The next Scarfer. MoxieMence.
Anyway, this guy is a monster. Especially when Moxie gets activated. I'm going to post the explanation I used for my 4drag2mag team:
>You probably faced this before. This thing becomes extremely dangerous once Moxie starts heating up. This guys is one of the best Choice Scarf users, mainly due to Moxie. EVs give physical sweeping potential as well as a point in SAtk that is helpful for 2 reasons:
- Ups my SAtk by a bit. You never know if that 1 point may come in handy.
- Allows me to switch into Stealth Rock 5 times before fainting.
Naive Nature helps me Speed tie with other Scarfed base 100's. Anyway, to the moves. Outrage is 180 base power STAB that rips through teams after losing their Steel type. This is used when I successfully remove the opposing Steel type. Dragon Claw is my alternative STAB when I'm trying to be cautious and know that my opponent still has a Steel alive. Fire Blast roasts the Steel Pokemon that I predict coming in, common ones being Ferrothorn and Forretress, which are both 2OHKO'ed by it. Earthquake is coverage, and hits Steels also.
Heatran (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 248 SDef / 12 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Stealth Rock
- Lava Plume
- Earth Power
- Toxic
Heatran was added to prevent a gaping Fire weakness to the team, and it also forms a Celitran combo with my Celebi. This guy is one of the most defensive Pokemon on the team, as it sports 4 x4 resistances: Steel, Bug, Grass, and Ice, covering lots of weaknesses in the team. Flash Fire helps Genesect, and Celebi, and occasionally, Mamoswine. EVs give really nice Special bulk and enough Speed to outspeed other Standard Heatran. Stealth Rock sets up my form of Hazards on the opposing player, allowing me to secure some vital KO's. Lava Plume hits many Steels in OU and when backed up by STAB, a Flash Fire boost, and that base 130 Special Attack stat...and maybe even Sun, it will hurt. And that 30% burn chance ruins Physical sweepers. Earth Power lets me hit other Heatran for 4x effective damage and Special Walls like Tentacruel that resist Lava Plume. Toxic allows me to outstall other walls.
Mamoswine (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Ice Shard
- Icicle Crash
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
Mamoswine came into mind to help me take Electric type moves and a counter to the 3 Therian forms, and sometimes Dragons. I'm using Life Orb because I already have two Scarfers in Salamence and Genesect already. And no, I don't have a Fire weakness, due to Thick Fat. Mamoswine helps take Ice moves directed and Salamence and Celebi when Heatran is down. EVs and nature focus on Physical strength, mostly. Ice Shard is STAB priority, and revenge kills Dragons, Gliscor, Therian formes, Breloom, Landorus, and Latios. It also nails Focus Sashers like Cloyster and Dugtrio. Icicle Crash is also STAB, which is used when I know I an outspeed the foe, either slower ones or the ones that were paralyzed by Celebi. Earthquake is STAB and demolishes Pokemon like Heatran. Stone Edge, combined with Earthquake, creates an EdgeQuake combination, allowing me to hit nearly unresisted.
Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Thunder Wave
- Recover
I love Physical Celebi. I remember that one comment trachy made, after this guy took a U-turn, a STAB one, "How the hell is that thing so bulky?" xD Celebi completes my Celitran combo, and is my Status absorber, due to Natural Cure. EVs and nature give excellent, I mean, excellent Physical bulk, and helps this pixie take STAB U-turns. :3 Speed EVs are here to outspeed Standard Tyranitar. Giga Drain is STAB, and recovers health to keep the pixie happy. Hidden Power [Fire] nails Steel Pokemon that try to switch into Giga Drain, especially Scizor. Thunder Wave cripples sweepers that rely on Speed to sweep, allowing my Mamoswine or another sweeper to help outspeed and nail KO's. Recover lets Celebi restore more health, when Giga Drain just won't do enough.
