Pokémon Rate My Team

Well, tis another Uber team, brought to thee by the wise and not-so-powerful Mr.K. I had just finished rating a team for someone, and I was testing it before I deemed it acceptable, and I realized that I really wanted to get back to battling. Well, this was a grand two days before I was going to lose my internet connection, but I decided to whip a team together just for the heck of it. So relying on the help of my pal from Smogon, SteelSkitty, I presented my idea.

I want to make an Uber team

Yep, that was my grand idea. So he says, “Make a Sun Team with Charizard”. Well looking at the time I figured it would be fine to tell everyone who came along that I was quite drunk, hence the Charizard and the Ninetales. Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately?) I was not drunk. So Charizard became Ho-Oh and Ninetales became Mewtwo. With Ho-Oh it’s generally nice to have some spin support on the team. But instead of one of the normal spinners, SteelSkitty suggests a magical spinner. And so Espeon makes the team. I still need a scarfer and someone to take some hits for Mewtwo and Espeon, so Genesect makes the team, getting bulk from being a steel type, and being a versatile scarfer. Last but not least I add a revenge-killer to the team in the form of Palkia, a dangerous pokemon by all accounts. The team had become more offense with support then it was a mix offense/defense. But it has done well, and so here it is.
Win: 51 Lose: 12 (3 additional to major hax and 1 additional to a stupid Double Team gimmick)

Now, the team.

Groudon @ Leftovers
enter image description here
Trait: Drought
EVs: 252 HP / 244 Def / 8 Spd / 4 Atk
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch

I went for defensive Groudon purposely to absorb hits for everyone else in the team. He still has a strong attack stat which allows him to deal some damage when required. With max HP he can take most water attacks from Kyogre when switching in. Also my Stealth Rock setter he sets those up quite easily. They assist me by breaking sashes, sturdy, and dealing some nice damage to help my sweepers. Thunder Wave is very nice allowing me to cripple at least one, normally two of my opponent’s pokemon. Earthquake is Groudon’s main attack with STAB. Fire punch is good coverage and hits quite hard in Sun. 8 Speed EVs allows him to outspeed any non-boosted speed-creeping base 90s, such as other Groudon and support Kyogres.

Mewtwo @ Life Orb
enter image description here
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Modest Nature
- Aura Sphere
- Recover
- Ice Beam
- Psystrike

Well I never liked LO Mewtwo, but I have come to realize why it’s so dangerous. I’ve always seen it in the hands of nubs, after all it IS Mewtwo. But in the hands of someone experienced (obviously not me) it is deadly. I have found that it pairs quite nicely with Genesect for cleaning up. Genesect gets U-Turn and Explosion to finish off any threatening opponent, while Mewtwo comes in and finishes off the remainder. Mewtwo has quite often been the last pokemon standing and it does quite well. Recover is there to heal off residual damage, and with Mewtwo’s somewhat decent bulk, it also works to fend off semi-powerful attacks and return with some KOs. Aura Sphere, Ice Beam, and Psystrike are all nice coverage and, fairly self-explanatory.

Ho-Oh @ Choice Band
enter image description here
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Earthquake
- Sacred Fire
- Sleep Talk

Ah, what a gem this Ho-Oh is. I do miss out on the SubRoost combo which is deadly, but Band-Oh is an incredible powerhouse. Earthquake is good coverage, while Sacred Fire and Brave Bird are dual STABs and no one likes taking them, unless a dedicated defensive pokemon. With fire typing it is unaffected by Will-O-Wisp, and with Regenerator it is easily capable of switching in and out. Bulky Attacker is the set I decided to go with as I have plenty of speed on the team, and having a little bit of additional bulk would be totally fine.

Espeon @ Light Clay
enter image description here
Trait: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Light Screen
- Reflect
- Baton Pass/Psychic
- Wish

Espeon is truly magical. I had never used it before this team, and I must say it is totally rad. I have used it to screw SubStall Shaymin, Ferrothorn’s, Darkrai’s, and so much more. It has rendered opposing Forretress useless by threatening to switch in. A Screen Setter with Wish as healing. As I have Magic Bounce I have remained undecided about Psychic or Baton Pass, as I have never used Psychic, but it may help in sticky situations. Again I’m not sure. Bulky Speed Support is what the spread and nature achieve. It has gotten me through so many sticky spots.

Palkia @ Choice Scarf
enter image description here
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Spacial Rend
- Fire Blast
- Hydro Pump

There is one word I’d like to use to describe this guy:
**

Scary.

**
Ok, moving on.

But in all seriousness, this fellow has the speed, has the power, and has the looks. Hydro Pump hits hard even in Sun. Fire Blast (Ferrothorn) is to take out any (Ferrothorn) opposing pokemon (Ferrothorn) that would otherwise (Ferrothorn) cause me problems (Ferrothorn), such as (Ferrothorn) Forretress [Troll Face] (Rage Face). Spacial Rend is main STAB and most of the time also my preferred attack, when I don’t bother to predict. Thunderbolt hits Ho-Oh and Kyogre for SE damage, but otherwise doesn’t see much use. Hydro Pump is just wicked power, even in Sun and sees use against any Ho-Oh or Heatrans that aren’t Specially Defensive.

Genesect @ Choice Scarf
enter image description here
Trait: Download
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SAtk
Hasty Nature
- U-turn
- Ice Beam
- Blaze Kick
- Explosion

The classic Blaze Kick Genesect for utter trolliness. Physical biased Genesect is arguably the better of the two options; though Special Genesect does have its pros. Physical Genesect instead gets a powerful Explosion, often used to take out opposing Kyogre. Blaze Kick (Ferrothorn) hits several different pokemon (Ferrothorn), such as (Ferrothorn) opposing Genesect [Troll Face] (Rage Face). U-Turn sees the most use as STAB and momentum builder. Ice Beam hits many different pokemon in the Uber tier like Shaymin or Groudon (Ferrot)[SHUT UP!!].

So there we have our (Ferrothorn)[…] team, fairly straightforward, nothing to put down as a threat list (Ferrothorn) other than Double Team gimmick teams. There’s probably something I overlooked but getting back into battling means reviving all that stuff I’d stored away, so I’m still finding some dust here and there (Even though it hasn’t actually been long since you took a break)[a month is enough of a break, now shut up]. So anyways, feel free to comment. Feel not free to upvote this rather good looking team (Ferrothorn)[omfg….], nah jk. But seriously, anyone comment with some suggestions, I’d love to try it out. And yeah… that’s (Ferrothorn) the team for you.

Why Unnerve? Pressure is the better choice, especially when you have Recover.
Lol, was supposed to be pressure, thanks for pointing that out JarJar.

I don't often rate teams, but I'll give this a try. Also, note I don't often play in Ubers, so I might miss something obvious, but as I said I'll try.

Groudon
This one seems fine. There is not really anything else to say about it, it is just a good pokemon for mixing Defence and Offence, which is exactly what you have done.

Mewtwo
This one also seems like a good pokemon. I will point out it can learn Fire Blast and Flamethrower, though, which get powered up in the sun. However to add them to your set the only move I think you can afford to get rid off it Recover, and I don't really recommend it. Besides, you probably have enough Fire attacks on your team without adding to them.

Ho-oh
OK, now this is where I begin to suggest changes. Why have you given it Sleep Talk? I understand that it would help it act as a status absorber, however since it is banded you will have to switch out when Ho-oh wakes up. Also you would have to predict that you will be put to sleep, otherwise you would be locked into the original move you chose, and be unable to select Sleep Talk at all (at least I think that's how it works). I think it is a little risky, and it might be better to go with either Punishment (really good against Swords Dance or Calm Mind users) or Zen Headbutt. Just checking on the type coverage checker, Punishment is probably better for dealing super-effective damage to more stuff as well.

Espeon
There is no reason to give it Baton Pass. Light Screen and Reflect cover the entire team anyway, and Wish can be passed on just by switching out as well, so Baton Pass seems a little redundant. While Espeon can't be taunted, it is probably better to give it at least one attack anyway. Psychic would be fine, although Psyshock is also an option to hit the Defence stat of Specially Defensive pokemon.

Palkia
Hydro Pump seems a little odd in the sun, but I understand and agree with your reasoning. Not to mention if the opponent manages to get rain up it could be very useful. The main thing I would change is Thunderbolt. I recommend giving it Thunder instead. This is because its main use is against Kyogre, and if a Kyogre is out on the field, then it is probably raining, so Thunder will have perfect accuracy. I do stress, however, that during the sun Thunder only has 50% accuracy, so only use it if it is raining or there is no weather in effect. While Thunderbolt might be more reliable for Ho-oh, either Hydro Pump or Spacial Rend can be used to try and take it out instead, so Thunderbolt is not really necessary for that. Or if Ho-oh is your major concern, then maybe switch out Hydro Pump for Power Gem? It has a lot less power, but isn't weakened by the sun, and is 4x super-effective against Ho-oh.

Genesect
This set is fine. Genesect can run a lot of sets, and many of them are perfectly viable. If you want dual STAB you can use Iron Head, but I wouldn't give up any of those moves for it, so I would just stick with what you have.

I hoped this helps, although your # of wins are very good, so you might not want to change anything.

Having Sleep Talk on Ho-Oh gives me someone to switch into Darkrai's Dark Void, and it's disappointingly easy to predict that. Punishment isn't that bad, but if I do that I have no one to take on Darkrai meaning I have to sack a pokemon to Dark Void. Palkia has Thunderbolt to deal with Ho-Oh as well as Kyogre. And in Sun TBolt does the most damage to Ho-Oh and does well against Kyogre, which gives me a more balanced moveset. It seems most of the things you thought about you also came up for the exact same reasons for why they aren't there :P
Thanks.
Personal preference I suppose :)
And I forgot about Darkrai, so it does make sense to give Ho-oh Sleep Talk then.
