Hi all, Mew here. I haven't posted an RMT here in ages, I want to start be more active again on the sections of the site. Here I have an OU team that I built like a month ago, and it revolves around Clefable, a Pokemon who has risen from the depths of RU in BW to OU in XY, because of its marvelous Fairy typing. Without further ado, let's delve right into the team.
Clefable (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SpD
Calm Nature (+SpD, -Atk)
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Flamethrower
- Softboiled
Clefable is easily one of the better Pokemon in the current OU metagame. As Aegislash and Mawilite are banned from the tier, Clefable has more of a chance to shine in battle. The EVs allow me, at full health, to take 2 Life Orb Thunderbolts from a Thundurus, and 2 Life Orb Psyshocks from Latios, which is impressive for something that used to be in RU. Combined with the fact that it takes no residual damage thanks to Magic Guard, Calm Mind is pretty easy to set up. This not only ups Clef's damage outputs, but allows it to act as a Special Tank. Moonblast is chosen for STAB purposes and Flamethrower was to check Steel Pokemon that switch into Clef. Finally, Softboiled grants me some extra recovery, as Clefable will be switching in and out to sponge various hits.
Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
IVs: 0 Atk
- Defog
- Draco Meteor
- Roost
- Psyshock
Latias was chosen over her brother Latios because of her significantly higher bulk, allowing her to be a more effective Defogger. With a Life Orb, Latias can still hit respectably hard, especially witch Draco Meteor and Psyshock. Roost allows Latias to heal off Life Orb damage as well as as Rocks damage. Latias' EVs allow it to take less recoil from Life Orb.
Ferrothorn (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Impish Nature (+Def, -SpA)
- Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
- Protect
Although it lost its resistances in the Steel nerf, Ferrothorn still is one of the most reliable mixed walls in the game. Its superb typing grants it a myriad of resistances, and it counters one of the hardest hitting Pokemon in the OU Metagame - Azumarill. Besides providing me with mixed wall capabilities, Ferro sets up my Stealth Rock, allowing my sweepers, Keldeo and Landorus, to easily knock out opposition. Leech Seed grants my Choiced Pokemon some sort of recovery, and can be combined with Ferrothorn's Protect to seal some extra health. Power Whip is my STAB to take out Water / Ground Pokemon, as well as something to do when Taunted.
Keldeo-Resolute @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
IVs: 30 HP / 2 Atk / 30 Def / 30 SpA / 30 SpD
- Scald
- Hydro Pump
- Secret Sword
- Hidden Power [Flying]
Keldeo was another Pokemon who came into light as the OU superstars were banned into Ubers. Its insane power from Specs leaves it one of the main forces in OU. Keldeo's access to Scald is most likely why it has so much success - at most turns, its generally safe to just click Scald and watch something come in to take a burn. If extra power is needed, Hydro Pump is there, but Scald is superior in most cases. Secret Sword hits the physical side, allowing me to kill Chansey and Blissey easily. Finally, HP Flying gives me something to kill Mega Venusaur.
Landorus-Therian @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 24 HP / 252 Atk / 232 Spe
Jolly Nature (+Spe, -SpA)
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- U-turn
- Knock Off
Landorus-T is another great Pokemon right now, and is one of the most popular Scarfers in the tier. Because of Intimidate, it can act as a pseudo physical wall, and its typing allows it to check many of the threats in OU. EdgeQuake coverage is offered to get neutral coverage, and Knock Off allows me to cripple many walls that switch into Landorus-T to attempt to sponge an attack. U-turn is used for momentum purposes and can be used to bring in sweepers.
Gyarados (M) @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpA)
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
Gyarados is still a large threat in the tier. Its access to Intimidate allows Landorus and it to completely screw over physical attackers. When Gyarados mega evolves, it gains Mold Breaker, which is significant because Pokemon such as Rotom-W cannot switch into Earthquake, Venusaur's Thick Fat will not be able to wall Ice Fang, and Quagsire cannot drink the Waterfall Gyarados launches. Dragon Dancing makes all those fates much worse :3
