The first thing that comes to mind is "love yourself". I suppose I don't really hear it often, but how am I supposed to know what I hear often? In any case, loving yourself is a bad idea. Just listen to the words "love yourself" and tell me it doesn't sound egotistical/narcissistic. My ego is big enough already without me going "WOW I LOVE ME I'M SO GREAT". It's no better than "I suck and I'm a failure". I beat myself up a lot, but I don't hate myself. I think of me as... me. All my traits are just part of me, and I don't plan to change. Of course I can't stop myself from changing somewhat but you get the point. Just think of yourself as yourself, stupid as it sounds when I word it like that, and life goes on. Anyone who says you should love yourself is egotistical and stupid.

No, I don't care if that fits either category.
