Black velvet curtains drawn on stained glass

Dim light shines through despite petrichor

Haunting, ominous

 

Hymns are sung in eerie voices

Candles lit, an unsteady ambiance

Orchids and red roses strewn across the aisles

A sacred and holy event

 

A crate decorated and pristine

Guarded with its own severe aura

It "looks like a cradle"

It's "for the gone," said the mother

 

Pictures of someone revered and protected

An elegiac lamentation is sung

A woebegone heart-breaking lament

And melancholic. Disconsolate. Dismay.

 

That someone was you.

That lament was for you.

This event is for you.

That crate contains you.

 

My heart is with you.

And all I can think is

"I miss you"
