PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

I've always been curious about how to play...because I have a crapload of cards that I don't want to go to waste.

And I don't want massive huge monster-big answers to read like this if at all possible, I hate to read. (Though I will give you points for your effort if you do ;D)

In case you don't like links, and so my answer has actual content, here is a general basic description of how to play the Pokémon TCG.

In the TCG, you have cards. (Obviously) You make a deck with these cards, before you play. There are three main types of cards:

  • Pokémon cards
  • Energy cards
  • Trainer cards

Your Pokémon cards are your Pokémon. they attack your opponent's Pokémon. However, they need energy attached to attack. That's where the energy cards come in. You attach the energy cards to your Pokémon to let them attack. Trainer cards can help you in many different ways, but the point is that Trainer cards are there to support you Pokémon cards, in some way.

You also have prize cards. At the beginning of the game, you put out six cards, facing down. each time you KO one of your opponent's Pokémon, you take a prize card. When you take all your prize cards, you win.

This is just a very simple explanation of how to play the Pokémon TCG. For more detailed information, go to the link at the beginning of this answer. Hope I helped.

Good answer, but just to make it totally accurate, you should say that some of these are not 100% consistent. For example, some regional form cards do not take energy for one of their attacks, or if you KO one of you opponents EX, V, Mega EX, or Tag Team, you take multiple prize cards.

Honestly, though, you don’t really need to put this in your answer. I'm kind of a perfectionist and I notice these things :/
I know, I'm a big TCG player, and a perfectionist as well. I did put those thing in there in an earlier draft, but it made it too long and the question specifically asked to avoid long answers. There are exceptions to almost every rule in the TCG, like being able to have more than 6 prize cards, or winning the game without taking any.

Its a lot to explain in one answer. But the official Pokemon website provides tutorials to the TCG that can be found Here. The even provide video to help with the instructions, this is the site that help me understand it.
