If a Protect is broken by Feint, is it safe to use Protect the next turn?

As you all know, if Protect is used more than 2 times in a row it lowers its chance of succeeding. And Protect can break through Protect.
Question is then, if Protect is broken by Feint, will the "Protectcounter" be reset=Protect can be used on the next turn or will the "Protectcounter" continue=Protect might fail the next turn?

Protect acts as it normally would, and feint simply goes through it. Failed on second turn.
