Say you used trick to give someone a flame orb or something, and the opponent didn't have an item. With these variables, you will have no hold item. If you were to use recycle, would you get the item back? Same thing with Fling if you fling the item away.

No. For starters Recycle only works on single-use items so you can't recycle items like Flame Orb or Life Orb. Also you can't recycle items which you gave away - since technically they havn't been 'consumed'
