PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

Um, I didn't see a question like this, so I'd thought I'd ask, since Evo Pokemon are common in NU. Not counting stuff like Dusclops or Porygon2, since they're pretty OP'd with Evo and are in UU.

This includes LC Pokemon that are viable in NU, e.g. Ferroseed.

I'll post one as an example.

The Solosis evolution line is pretty awesome, not only sporting a cool design, but also a brilliant ability all the way through - Magic Guard - through all three of its stages. It's got some good coverage apart from STAB Psychic; Shadow Ball, Focus Blast, Energy Ball and Signal Beam, along with great support moves like Calm Mind, Recover and Trick Room. As one of the slowest Pokemon in the metagame, it can set up and fully utilise Trick Room by itself and sweep with a monster base sp. atk of 125, which is higher than Porygon2's base 105 sp. atk. Along with Magic Guard, Duosion has a lot to boast, since it can't be worn down by status or weakened by hazards. A lacking of good spinners in NU means that hazards are just things that NU players have to deal with.

Duosion @ Eviolite
Ability: Magic Guard
EV: 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 Sp. Atk
Nature: Bold
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock
- Signal Beam
- Recover

Moveset analysis

Psyshock and Signal Beam give almost full neutral coverage apart from Steel types. Psyshock for STAB, Signal Beam to cover dark types with an added chance of confusion.

Recover is self-explanatory; Calm Mind is there to further boost sp. def on top of Eviolite, but also boosting its Sp. Atk, leaving EV investment for HP & Defence.

Ability analysis

Overcoat - while not taking damage from Sand or Hail would be nice, neither really exist in NU. Snover moved up to RU, and Hippopotas is not commonly seen in NU, even though it's a weather starter. Besides, even if Hail or Sand were in force, Magic Guard would protect Duosion anyway.

Regenerator (Hidden Ability) - while a very good ability in itself, Regenerator is not the optimum ability for Duosion, only because it has a better one.

Magic Guard - Duosion's brilliant ability. Immunity to hazards, weather, status draining and Life Orb recoil (should you choose a Life Orb set), this allows it to be a much more significant threat, along with its decent bulk.

Deino survived Bullet Punch from Technician + Swords Dance + STAB Scizor with almost half health remaining, and took off half of said Scizor's health with Fire Fang. So let's try Zweilous for higher stats. This is basically my Deino set.

Zweilous @ Eviolite
Trait: Hustle
252 HP / 208 Def / 48 SDef
Adamant Nature
Outrage
Fire Fang
Dragon Tail/Thunder Wave
Superpower

Dragon Tail miss is kinda haxy with Hustle, so you might want to use Thunder Wave to give you more chances to attack. Tested in OU, and will surely work in RU.

Speed boost? You mean Attack boost, right?
Oh, right, sorry. I misread Hustle's effect.

Golbat @ Eviolite
Ability: Inner Focus
Nature: Impish (+Def, -SpA) or maybe Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)
EV's: 248 HP/ 228 Def/ 32 Spe (you can play around with this a bit if you want to)
Move Set:
- Roost
- Taunt
- Brave Bird
- Toxic

Taunt stops everything setting up in its face. Roost heals off any damage it takes. Brave Bird stops it being taunted, and allows it to do some reliable STAB damage if it needs to. Toxic obviously inflicts status, although could be replaced with Super Fang if you prefer. Because of Golbat's typing giving it several useful resistance (namely to Bug, Fighting and immunity to Ground) it can be very useful. It can act as a wall to many offensive Pokemon, and with Taunt can destroy many opposing walls, so is a good all-round choice.

Those EV's assume an Impish nature. Jolly isn't as good for it (I don't think), but if you use it then the EVs will need to be changed a bit.

Roselia

enter image description here

Roselia @ Eviolite
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Calm Nature

  • Spikes
  • Rest
  • Giga Drain
  • Stun Spore

A very specially defensive Pokemon, Mini Roserade is a beast special wall in RU. Eviolite boosting it's Special Defense to amazing levels, and also Rest for healing, this is one wall to watch out for.
Spikes can set some hazards and provide additional support for your team.
Rest + Natural Cure is one of the best healing combos out there.
Giga Drain is a good solid STAB move that can heal back your HP while doing damage.
Stun Spore spreads paralysis and can further support your team in addition to Spikes.

Piloswine

enter image description here

Piloswine @ Eviolite
Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 HP / 252 Def
Impish Nature

  • Stealth Rock
  • Earthquake
  • Ice Shard
  • Icicle Spear/Toxic

A very good NU Defensive wall, Piloswine can act as a very good bulky lead to set up an early Stealth Rocks and be a monster with Thick Fat.
Stealth Rock is a very good move to have on any Pokemon, as Rocks can provide some major help for your team.
Earthquake is your STAB #1, doing damage to other leads like Bastoidon and Golem.
Ice Shard is a great move to hit stuff like Braviary while you're at low health for some instant damage.
Icicle Spear is a great Substitute breaking move, while Toxic can stall out some Pokemon like Eelektross and Cradily.

Misdreavus @ Eviolite
enter image description here
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spd / 4 Def
Timid Nature

  • Will-O-Wisp / Taunt
  • Nasty Plot
  • Shadow Ball
  • Hidden Power [Fighting] / Thunderbolt

Misdreavus is known to be arguably the best Ghost type in LC, but can also function well in NU as an offensive Eviolite user. This is a basic Nasty Plot set that you might occasionally see some people run, although a defensive set is effective too.
Will-O-Wisp and Taunt are both options to get an opportunity to set up. Will-O-Wisp cripples any physical attackers, while Taunt breaks down any wall who comes in. Nasty Plot is pretty self-explanatory, and boosts its Special Attack all the way to 538 after one use, very capable of sweeping. Shadow Ball is a reliable STAB, and is what you will be attacking with most of the time. Hidden Power [Fighting] gives you great Ghost-Fighting coverage by hitting Normal and Dark types for good damage. But Thunderbolt is generally preferred, hitting Normal/Flying types + Skuntank harder than anything else (Bar Thunder).

Gurdurr
Gurdurr @ Eviolite
Trait: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpA)
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Payback

Being Conkeldurr's little brother, Gurdurr too gets an Eviolite boost. One Bulk Up basically doubles his defense and his attack certainly gets boosted. Drain Punch gets you health you just can't get from the Eviolite and Mach Punch is to make up for Gurdurr's poor Speed with a Priority STAB. Payback also gives Gurdurr a way to compensate for lack of the Running Shoes. Not only can it lay a beatdown upon Pokemon, but it enjoys absorbing status.

Ferroseed is rather good with eviolite, because it raises it's already decent defense.Keep trying eviolite on Pokemon in RU/NU and see what one works best for you, but I reccomend Ferroseed.

Hope I helped,
