Yes there was, it was the The Junior Cup in which Trip won and then got a chance at battling Alder, but lost to his Bouffalant.

Yeah she was funny at times. Maybe she will have a shock return in Kalos as a model or something, Ash falls in love with her and the whole anime goes kaput. (Adventures In Kalos --> The Love Life Of Ash & Misty) (Now that would be a bad turn around for Pokémon).
