Well that glitch isn't listed here so it's probably just something random happening with your game.
My advice would be to reset your game (Try making sure there's nothing in the cartridge/slot as well) and your game cartridge isn't damaged or anything.
If this continues happening, go yell at your retailer and yes, you're doomed to be alone forever. :P
