Sup
Im meeting the Lugia in whirl pools. Im stuck in there and I tried 3hours (13times).
I survive but Lugia ends up using Struggle or I get a critical hit. I want to use a regular pokeball. I have 60 of them.
This is my current team to catch him.
Typhlosion lv 44
Drowzee lv 12 ( Flash and Hypnosis)
Crobat lv 30 (Fly)
Tauros lv 31 (surf)
Swinub lv 30(Strength)
Tentacool lv 21 (Whirlpool Waterfall)

All I know is that Typhlosion can take 1Hydro pump. 4 Extrasensory. 2Aeroblast.
Tauros can take 1 extra sensory. Tentacool can take 1 Hydro Pump.

I know if its possible to catch it with normal pokeball? And whats the catch rate? I can lower the Hp between 1-10. And can I catch it with a regular pokebal?

Yeah so that's the Gen IV Catch rate formula, where;
- HPmax is the number of hit points the Pokémon has at full health,
- HPcurrent is the number of hit points the Pokémon has at the moment,
- rate is the catch rate of the Pokémon (which may have been previously modified from the use of the Heavy Ball or Safari Zone modifiers),
- bonusball is the multiplier for the Poké Ball used, and
- bonus status is the multiplier for any status ailment the Pokémon has (2 for sleep and freeze, 1.5 for paralyze, poison and burn, and 1 otherwise).
- and A is the final catch rate

So lets do a little maths. For the sake of the question, lets assume you get Lugia down to 10 HP. I'm also going to assume that Lugia is 31 IVs, No evs- thats 164 HP Sooo;
a = [(3 x 164 - 2 x 10 ) x 3 x 1]/ (3 x 164)
= 2.878

So right now you catch rate is a measly 2.878

Which is more or less 3. o-o

Is that a big  chance?
No mate that's tiny. :P
Is it 3% in 100%?
No. 3 is the catch rate
The actual percentage is about 0.4%.

You asked in the right section. Don't worry. xD

The catch rate formula is:

enter image description here

  • HP Max is the full amount of HP the target has.
  • HP Current is the amount of HP the target has at time of capture.
  • Rate is the Catch Rate of the Pokemon. In this case, it's 3.
  • BonusBall is the value of the PokeBall you attempt to catch it in. Click here to look up your PokeBall value.
  • BonusStatus is the value of the status it has. 1.5 if paralyzed, poisoned or burned, 2.0 if asleep or frozen, and 1.0 if it does not have a status condition.

You can do the formula yourself, if you don't want to slot in all the details and I will work out the formula for myself.

Hope I helped. :)
